In keeping with her life’s mission to educate people about the ideals of her grandfather, Sun Yat-sen — the founding father of modern China. Dr. Lily Sui-fong Sun has donated pieces from her personal art collection to be permanently displayed at Hawaii Pacific University.
The items range from jade and ceramic artwork to books of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s original writings.
“I want to keep his teachings in front of all humanity. My grandfather belongs not just to the Chinese people, but to the whole world,” she said.
A Hawaii resident between 1874 and 1883, during which time he attended Iolani School and Oahu College, Sun Yat-sen inspired the 1911 revolution that overthrew the Qing Dynasty, the last of China’s great imperial dynasties.
